TO EVERYTHING THERE IS A SEASON

To everything, there is a season and a time to every purpose under the heaven.  A time to plant and a time to pluck up that which is planted. Ecclesiastes 3:1-2 Almost any field you drove past this week had a tractor in it. Whether they were planting or working up the ground farmers had a busy week. Although most farmers now use no-till or low-till methods of crop farming to help with soil erosion among other things you will still see ground being worked by certain types of equipment. The saying "Make hay while the sun shines" also applies to planting. The past week was incredibly busy around here. I will confess it did not affect me other than running back and forth to the fields. Corn was planted, then sprayed, a few loads of pigs went out, and a new group of chickens had just come in. All while cows needed milked 3 times a day.    I know people can get frustrated when they're running late for work or where ever they may be going and get stuck behind a tra...

THE TRUE GIFT OF MOTHER'S DAY

Flowers, jewelry, breakfast in bed. As Mother's Day approaches the focus on the perfect gift is everywhere. Even in my home  the question of  what do I want for Mother's Day  has been asked . This year it made me stop and think. While we  are told  as moms we deserve a day all about us  to be  catered to and given gifts maybe, just maybe there is more to it. Mother's Day is not always a day to celebrate. For some the day is difficult and painful. To the woman who longs to be a mother and is struggling with infertility. To the woman who lost a child or only held her baby for a few minutes. To the woman who never knew her mother. To the woman living in fear for nine months begging God for a healthy baby due to a high-risk pregnancy. To the woman who is pouring her love into an adopted or foster child To the woman told she can't have more children because she would be putting her life at risk To the woman who has lost her mother. ...

LATE NIGHTS AND A CROWDED TRACTOR

The words "what should we do", coming out of my husbands mouth as he sat head down looking at the weather app on his phone. I kinda laugh, because let's be honest I knew he was thinking out loud, not actually asking for my  advice  when it came to if they should or shouldn't mow rye. The rye needed mowed now or its going to get old, but if we mow we risk it getting rained on for the next week. Neither option is exactly ideal and can effect the quality when it's turned into feed for the cows. Not long after this conversation I see the mower going past. He came home at 2 am the next morning, he had gotten it all mowed this also meant he had just pulled a 22 hour day. Thankfully it did not get rained on for a week, it was chopped and in the trench before the rain. The do we or don't we with the field work the last few weeks has been ongoing. The weather has been kinda strange for May. ...

Hopeful and Healing

It has been a crazy few weeks to say the least! Many people have been asking family members or myself how things are going, and how I'm recovering with the social distancing guidelines and all. Honestly things are not going as originally planned but then again that is just the way life is  right now. I don't think anything is going as anyone had planned this spring. I am so thankful that I was able to have my surgery, I was within just a few days of it needing to be canceled, all non emergency surgeries were canceled later that week. I'm Getting stronger and feeling more like myself every week. Thank you for the prayers and meals you have blessed us with the last few weeks.    I can hardly believe how things have changed the last month. I am now doing school at home with Savannah. The first week went really well, but the eye rolling, and" do I have to " comments when I tell her its time to do her school work are now a daily occurrence. I also know...

TIME IS NO LONGER MINE

My child: “Mom!!! I'm hungry, can I have a snack?” Me: “I just gave you a snack.” My child: “But I’m still hungry.” My child: “Mom!!! When is dad coming home?” Me: “He was just in for lunch it will be a while.” *Crash* Me: “Girls what fell?” My child: “Mom she broke the closet door again.” Seconds later... Me: “Get off the kitchen counter we just had lunch I'll get you a snack in a little bit.” Me:“Stop jumping on the sofa!!” Me: “Do not let the dog in he just ran though mud!!!” These our the conversations or things I say almost daily.         Yes my days are filled with breaking up fights, time outs, hugs, laughs, laundry, cleaning up spills, and the list goes on and on. I wouldn’t change it for the world. It’s only  March and at times I’m counting down till they start chopping rye. Something about the excitement of that first harvest of the year makes us all a little excited and happier after a long the winter indoors. Yes, it m...

PEACE LIKE A RIVER

Do you really think getting an MRI is necessary? I mean, I feel fine lots of people have little growths on there liver and there usually nothing to worry about, and an MRI is expensive. Yes, you have three kids you are young and the ultrasound shows that it's big. I'm not quick to go overboard with test either but this time I think it's important. This was the conversation between me and the GI doctor several weeks ago. I agreed and two days later had an MRI. After having the MRI done I came home we all jumped in the car and headed for the state farm show, mamma needed a milk shake and some fried food.  We had a blast! The kids loved it, and we even snagged a close parking spot which trust me is a big deal at the farm show. On our way home my phone rang and I saw it was my family doctor, I knew if they were calling that fast with results something was off. The MRI showed this mass is really large and should be monitored. "How are you fe...

DIRT ON THE'RE BOOTS

Austin are you going to be a basketball player when you get older Blake asked? No (he laughs) I'm gonna be a farmer. Me too or maybe I can be the vet for the farm says Savannah. Yup ill be a farmer boy and you will be the farmer girl. This was the conversation between my husband daughter and nephew this weekend. Like a lot of kids there age to them there dads have really cool jobs. As I sat down to write this the two of them show up at the front door jeans wet and muddy up to the knees and somehow there feet that were now bare also covered in mud. What were you two doing, I asked. Well we found a puddle to wash our boots off in they explained as Austin dumps the water out of his boots. Our daughter was the first of the grandchildren born into the farm followed by my nephew. They both spent several days a week in the barn from the time they were infants till now as did the two that followed. let me just say milking while 39 weeks pregnant is somewhat hilarious to watc...
